Hybrid Battery System In High Country Victoria

Overview:

Mansfield is a town in the foothills of the Victorian Alps. Like all rural towns - it is susceptible to blackouts and brownouts. When power is lost at any home, it is incredibly frustrating more than anything. You can't enjoy your surroundings. You can't rely on your energy and the quality of life you are used to.

Our client in Mansfield took it upon themselves to do something about their energy.

They wanted to eliminate the frustrations of blackouts and no power, but furthermore, wanted to own their situation.

The rolling hills of Mansfield are also filled with large trees, so catering a renewable energy system that eliminated shading issues, stored the energy they weren't using into the Tesla Powerwall and also fitted in with the landscape of the house and surroundings were all things our design team faced when designing the system with the client.

Our Distinct Approach:

Utilising a 6kW SolarEdge 1PH inverter with individual optimisers, the system was catered to avoid any shading issues from a large tree which casts a major shadow for large parts of the day.

As each panel is treated as its own small individual system, if one panel is shaded - it has no effect on the rest of the solar system, meaning production energy yield always maintains its highest value. Instead of string inverter systems, where if a panel is shaded, the whole system produces significantly less energy.

System Design:

23 X Canadian Solar 330W HiDM Tier 1 Panels
SolarEdge 6kW 1PH SE6000H Inverter
SolarEdge P370 Optimizers
Tesla Powerwall 2 13.5kWh Battery w / Gateway and monitoring

The Outcome:

The system was designed around catering to the daily household load, with all energy not being used on site being fed into the Tesla Powerwall for night time usage, with an allowance for backup, where if the grid goes down, the house will not be without backup storage on critical loads.

The PV system will produce on average 27.2kWh of renewable energy per day. All panels are individually monitored through the SolarEdge Web portal to ensure that the system is always working to its maximum capability.

Looking back at system performance data, the data shows that the system is working exactly as intended.

There was also a keen focus on style. Canadian all black HiDM 330W panels were used to suit the household and maximise appearance.
